Three Dead, Many Injured As Cooking Gas Explosion Rock Ajao Estate, Lagos


Three yet-to-be-identified persons died on Tuesday during an explosion at a shop on Asafariogun Street, in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos State.


Newsmen gathered that the explosion, which happened around 6pm, started from a panel beater’s workshop.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said three bodies were recovered from the scene, adding that two persons were injured.

He said, “A total of nine shops were affected by the inferno. The fire has been extinguished by the combined efforts of LRU fire and the Lagos State Fire Service. Three bodies were retrieved from the debris.”

The Acting General-Manager, Lagos State Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye, said one injured person was taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, a commercial Volkswagen bus was gutted by fire on the Third Mainland Bridge on Tuesday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the bus, which conveyed several jerrycans of diesel, was gutted by fire around 2pm at the Adekunle end of the bridge.
